Exciting New Changes!
There a couple of new and very exciting things that COEMST will be able to offer our students!
January 2010 will begin our official affiliation with North Central State College.
What this means for students;
EMT Basic, Intermediate or Paramedic students may enroll through NC State for a credit course or enroll directly through Central Ohio EMS Training for a certificate course. Students choosing to participate in the certificate course will be eligible to articulate to NC State for credits as long as certifications are valid.
Financial options such as federal funding, student loans and other types of financial aid will be available through NC State.
Courses will continue to be held at the Lucas facility and will continue to follow the same schedule.
Online Refreshers and Continuing Education
Central Ohio EMS Training has begun offering Online / Distance continuing education courses in accordance with the rules of the State of Ohio which requires that a topic may be studied online or through other media; texts, journals, PowerPoint, etc., but then a test over the material must be administered before a continuing education certificate may be issued.
In addition, any lab skills required as part of the continuing education must be completed onsite.
The tests over the topic(s) will be administered onsite at COEMST Lucas facility Monday through Thursday each week, or the test may be proctored by an approved EMS instructor at your department.
This will enable providers who need refreshers to take them at their convenience instead of having to wait for a class to be set up.
For example, if a provider needs a refresher, COEMST will email the provider the information to read and study. This may include various media including PowerPoint, articles, websites, etc. The provider will study the material and come to the COEMST facility one day per week to take a test over the topics and perform the required skills. The level of refresher being taken will determine how many times the provider must come to the facility. For the paramedic level the provider will come to the facility one day per week for three weeks.
In addition to refreshers, COEMST will be offering ACLS and PALS using the same format.
We are working to provide our area with the most up to date resources. We recognize that in this economy we all need to budget our time and our money. With this in mind we have endeavored to provide the most economical and convenient way possible to obtain the requirements necessary for all providers. In addition, COEMST will not be raising course fees or tuition for 2010. We have posted all of our fees, tuitions and requirements on our web site. We know that you will find COEMST to be the most economical as well as the most convenient EMS educational facility.
